School Opening

The school was opened on 1-7-1972 in an old building in North Street Swords. It had less than 100 children. There was only three teachers when the school opened Mrs Garvey, Ms McMahen & Ms Colgen. The school was finished in the year 1975 after the Easter holidays.

Church History

The parish used to hold mass on Sunday in our school hall, until the parish got its own church in the grounds of the school in 1976, & it still stands to this very day.

Early Years

In 1978 our boys & girls G.A.A teams were founded by Mr. Garvey.
The schools choir started in 1979. It was a great success.
Skip forward one year to 1980 when are library was started, back then it didn’t have too many books but it was still a library!
The annual talent show was started in 1986. There were some brilliant talent contests over the years. It aim was to encourage talent in the school. The talent contest has always been popular with the students in Brackenstown but you had to have great nerves to get up and sing and dance.
Ms. McGonagle always had an eye for prizes so she did something about it by starting the schools raffle in 1990. (But due to rising inflation because we had to put up the price to 10p per ticket)
