Welcome to this web site which was created as a tribute to the Classic Cinema, Harold's Cross, Dublin, Ireland. The site was originally created and designed by Kieran Murray in August 2003. Updated in 2007 to show the building completely demolished and a tribute to the owner Albert Kelly, who passed away in July 2005. First, a brief geography and history lesson: Harold's Cross is a suburb of Dublin, Ireland's capital city. It's just over two kilometres to the south of the capital.
Harold's Cross is named after the Anglo-Norman Harold family, who owned the land for generations when it was also known as Harold's Grange. The grange, or farmhouse, in question had a turret or watchtower, and was located just a little past the crossroads. Today, Harold's Cross is home to over one hundred businesses. The Classic Cinema was just one of those businesses; and it closed its doors for the final time on Thursday 21st August 2003. This website is a pictorial tribute. It features a number of newspaper articles on the cinema's history and closure; links to other Internet sites on Harold's Cross and a picture gallery of the cinema itself. This site has been updated in 2007 to show the building completely demolished and a tribute to the cinema owner Albert Kelly, who passed away in July 2005. Also added is previously unseen film footage taken on the day the cinema closed. Comments are encouraged, so please feel free to use the contact link. Make your selection below: |
