Cable & MMDS

What is it?
Cable is a technology that allows the distribution of TV programmes, interactive programming, telephony, and internet services via co-axial and fibre optic cable. MMDS allows you to recieve multichannel TV via a special aerial and set-top box.

Who provides it:
There are two main providers of Cable and MMDS in Ireland. Click an image to find out more on the services provided by each company.

In addition there are a number of smaller providers.

In September 2000, Southcoast Community Television applied for a franchise to operate an MMDS system in Cork, Kerry, and Waterford.
