ntlworld Highspeed

ntlworld High Speed is NTL's cable modem service, available now in Northern Ireland and Tallaght. The service offers a massive up to 512Kbps stream (compared to 128Kbps from CableNet). The downstream capacity is 128kbps. Of course, as with all cable modem services, you will not get near this speed as your bandwidth is shared by everyone on your street. See the general cable modems page for details. NB, unless otherwise specified, information on this page relates to the service in Northern Ireland. More specific information on Tallaght available soon.

What you get:
Always-on cable modem connection to the internet.

The Cable Modem
The only approved cable modem for the service in the North is the 3Com CMX modem, and in the Republic is the Motorolla cable modem. NTL says that other models will be available soon, although I wouldn't bet when this will happen! The modem connects to your computer via an Ethernet network interface card - NTL will supply you with one for STG£20/IR£39. The cable modems must be purchased from NTL - you cannot buy them in the shops.
