Wlecome to the home of Finglas Football Club

V's Mill FC.
Well long time no see, we are back for another report on Finglas FC, and again the opposition is Mill FC. So after a win in the last outing we were expecting the same result and Finglas delivered, with a solid performance in heavy conditions.
The conditions played there part with players slipping at vital moments and an injury to big Eamonn, who came off with a pulled hamstring(adding to the list of injuries).Eamonn was replaced by a new face Niall O'Brien and he slotted in well, but at times he looked to be playing centre mid-field not centre half.

As the game went on Finglas were putting the pressure on with a succession of corners, almost leading to the opener, but it was looking like on of those days as chance after chance went by the way side. Mill for there part defended well and broke on the counter attack on two occasions, a slip by Paul Colgan left the striker one on one with the keeper(Sean Smart), but the shot was a weak one straight a Sean and he saved easily.Paul was to slip again in the second half with the same result, thank heaven. The defence was completed with Rob Owens and Dave McCabe who showed they weren't afraid of the challenge.

The best performance was by the skipper Brian "Frankie" Keenan, he won the battle in the air and spread the ball around on the deck, helped out by Tom Kelly beside him in the middle. Derek Aherne and Nelly Byrne gave good width on the wings and always showed for the ball, going forward anyway.

Flicks from Colm Mullins and Darren Murray kept us entertained, don't know if they knew what they were doing but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Darren got a goal from one of the many corners we got in the first half. This was whipped in by Kelly and almost went in by itself but Murray nodded it home at the back post, from inches out he is deadly.

The turn around saw no changes on either side as the two teams continued at the same pace as they ended the first half, it was end to end football with last ditch defending and Referring decisions keeping the score at one nil. The game was nearly over and it looked like there would be no more incident when tempers flared as the front two could have been booked, and probably should have, Murray for kicking the ball away after an offside and Mullins getting involved with a defender when there was no need (at least he didn't throw himself to the ground like the last game). Oh there was one other thing, with nearly the last kick, Aiden Jameson, who came on as sub for Nelly, latched onto a loose ball on the corner of the 18 yard box and sent it into the far corner past the helpless Mill keeper. If you want more detail on that goal ask for "Jambo" in Martins, he'll be the drunk guy all too willing to tell the tail to anyone brave enough to ask (or foolish enough).

So a good days work done by all, a small mention for Andrew Mullins who was the third sub but didn't get a run. Hard luck man, just be a bit more in your face, and that gaffer of yours might take notice.
Till next time guys................Freddy.
