Finglas FC V's Mill FC Saturday19th Oct.
This the first league game for Finglas, we have chosen to ignore the two cup games in which they were beaten, sees us visit St Anne's Park the "gaffer" is away
for a dirty weekend and the team is in the hands of Lenny Maher. Not a good start but at least its a start. The mood in the camp is upbeat as the new gear will finally be unveiled.
As for the game, it started positively for Finglas with a few new faces Eamon Hand in defence Robert Owens back in the starting line up, and Stephen Buckley
coming back to fitness on the bench.
The 4-4-2 formation is solid with Paul Colgen in at centre half, but with Colin Mullins up front with Keith Ennis this is a new partnership lets see how they get on.
Most of the play was down our fight side at first, and a Darren Murray free kick after 10 mins could not be held by the keeper a Keith was there to pounce 1-0 and
Finglas look good< but not for long. Within 5 mins they are under pressure because of a few half clearances, the last of which Dave McCabe chests down to the centre forward and he takes his early
Christmas present 1-1.
Mill FC go into the lead with a well taken penalty,2-1. Eamon handled the ball after slipping, a little harsh but that's football. Finglas showed some bottle and got
back into it with a scrappy goal after another Murray free kick, Mullins taking the credit. 2-2 at half time.
The second half was a sloppy affair with an early goal by Ennis the difference between the teams. Mullins was booked and maybe a little lucky to stay on the pitch when a
scuffle broke out, he'll have to learn to avoid silly bookings as this is now three yellows in three games. It was a bit of "backs to the wall" as Mill pushed on looking for something
out of the game. Our shape went a little as we struggled to pick the players who were pushing on. With good work in the middle from Brian Keanan and Murray, who both had chances, helped Finglas to
hold on.
Derek Ahern made way for Stephen mid way through the half, who acquitted himself well on a busy left side. There was a solid game by Aiden Jameson at right full, he
linked up well with Owens ahead of him. Also Sean Smart played well in goal, lots of talking to his team mates and a couple of fine saves and confident punches, could do nothing about the goals.
3-2 to Finglas in the end, a win first time out is always good, they will have to cut out the sloppy goals and then they might be a team with a chance of doing something.
Keep up the good work, talk to you next time, Freddy.
