THE HISTORY OF FINGLAS FC

Two people, Derek Reilly and Brian Keenan, originally founded Finglas FC. They struggled against all odds to bring twenty interested people together to play regular organised football. However all their efforts fell short because they were lacking guidance that only years of experience can bring. This is where the third founder stepped in. Louis Mulqueen a neighbour of young Reilly and Keenan offered his assistance. Together the three organised suitable training grounds, a suitable league for the team to enter and fund raising for both a football kit and training equipment. The team took part in a five-mile run to raise the money necessary. Unfortunately more money was needed for insurance purposes. The players themselves agreed to pay a fee of £50 immediately and £5 every week thereafter.

Now Finglas FC is a team of seventeen friends who meet up regularly during the week for training and once at the weekend for a match. They are presently in the AFL Saturday League Division 1A. They have succeeded in getting sponsorship from their local pub Martins Lounge and a local company DK Construction. They run and contribute greatly to Martins pub lottery every week in aid of themselves and a local old folks charity.

However the upkeep of a football team is expensive with money being constantly needed for various reasons. Any sponsorship or donations would be greatly appreciated. Finglas FC hopes to become a well established soccer club in the future with many different aged teams for the local youth to enjoy thus providing a necessary service to the community.
