Rush
haven’t won a game all season and by the way the game started you
could tell. They had no structure what so ever and the constant
pressure from the two front men for finglas f.c. kept this game one
sided. The game was a very hard one for finglas f.c. but obviously
rush wanted it more. They were throwing themselves at this game with
all they had. Finglas were more settled in the first half our back
line were focused and playing in sync at the first sign of any
forward play from rush. The ball was sharply cut down and controlled
by the left back Dave and his right hand man Collie, Reilly and
Lenny. Both Dave and Lenny were outstanding in the first half
leaving the two center backs with the odd pass. Rush broke through
twice and when collie and reilly were needed they delivered the
goods, with some nice passing and controlled football out to the
right and left wing backs. With Lenny and Dave’s consistant runs up
the flanks they created some nice moves for Finglas. These tactical
moves are one of many been created by our new coach Pat Dunphy.
Training and tactics largely in league of Ireland games are now part
of finglas f.c.weaponry. Looking at the midfield it is plain
to see that Darren Murray meant business with his first challenge
catching the rush no.5 asleep in position. Throughout the game
Darren and Brian with their Brazilian skills won everything. Brian
created chance after chance and in doing so made the rush keeper
stretch for his goal bound header to pull off one of many excellence
saves. Across the midfield Darren, Brian, Mick and Aidan worked very
hard breaking up any run of play from rush. The Finglas front men
Tom and Liam should have been on hat tricks by mid way into the
first half however when Tommy’s chance came he scored from a
great initial run from Aidan Jameson down the right wing who passed
to Brian Keenan who in turn laid the ball off for Tommy to put it
pass the Rush keeper ten minutes from half time. Darren and Liam both
had shots blocked. The ref who cannot be named for legal reason
obviously couldn’t read the no.5 from rush. After four of five
very late tackles the ref eventually showed him the yellow card.
Substitutions at half time were Paul colgan for Derek Reilly on the
back line and tom Kelly for Liam keenan. Darren Murray was pushed up
front with Tommy lowndes and Tommy Kelly teamed up with Brian
Keenan in midfield. This proved to be a masterstroke by manager
Louis Mulqueen as Darren Murray beat the rush keeper to the ball and
headed over him for finglas' second goal three minutes into half
time. Rush made a gallant effort throughout the second half but the
back line along with Sean smart in goal were simply too strong. In
fairness to rush they gave it thier all and were very physical but
could not match the ball control that finglas displayed. My man of
the match was midfielder/striker Darren Murray and coming a close
second would be the right back Lenny Maher. The rush goalkeeper
needed a lot more than his team could provide but is clearly their
best player. Finglas can only get better with the up and coming
games with there determination and team spirit that has begun to
show through.
